I'm new to fishing, so don't laugh, but why can you go ice fishing in the winter but not regular fishing?

Jim it might also be a good time to catch up on the latest addition of your favorite fishing magazine,or fishing shows on TV.And a great time for the NFL. Here in Tennessee I can still get out and do some fishing as we do not have the ice problem you have up north. But it still gets cold, this morning it's 30 but yesterday it was in the 20's, in fact it got down to 9 at my house at 5:00am, but if you dress warm it's OK. Bill

I imagine that finding a catfish that can put up a real fight in the pond would be GREAT fun for an accomplished fisherman like yourself! Anyone else probably would have lost him or gotten pulled into the water!! LOL
Also, I just wanted to mention how great it is that you catch-and-release asap, and i'm sure the fish appreciate it also!
This weather has been FANTASTIC and the tree's are turning gorgeous colors! Good luck on future castings!

This bluegill is typical for the pond. Thhis one I caught using my Accardo popper in yellow. Some are a little bigger and some are smaller. Real fun on a fly rod.

On a search for northern pike, Jim and I discovered a few things that will hopefully lead to a northern pike fishing trip right here in Illinois. Yes, when most people think of northern pike they think of Wisconsin and Michigan, but we found a few boat launches into the Kankakee River that will hopefully lead to catching some of these reputedly tenacious fish. Local fisherman claim to have caught some, so why not us? One boat launch is at the very end of fourth street, another is in Old River Isle, and yet another is in Backwaters Farm. Take Highway 114 east 5 or 6 miles and take a left on State Line Road, this should lead you right there.
Kankakee State Park was also suggested but I imagine it is probably fished by a lot of people.
Live bait like suckers and roaches is suggested. Good luck and happy fishing!
