Bass on a fly rod Oct 12, 08

exceptional pond fishing 006 I failed to include this one on Oct 12th, so, here it is.  This bass weighs about 5 1/2 lbs.  Again, I use a guesstimate of the weight based on length of the fish.  I don’t want to hurt the fish so I release all of them as quickly as possible.  Maybe, I can catch him again when he’s a little bigger.   I was using the "Baby Craw" weightless, right up against the shore line.  Lots of fun.  Tight lines

I don’t go "regular fishing" because there is ice on all the lakes in my area.  The ice in this area is not safe as it is unpredictable on its thickness.  And, I am unable to range far from home, i.e., to travel or vacation is very expensive.  You might say that I am a "fair weather" fisherman" and I’m fairly good at it.  I’ve fished for many years, over sixty five years, and have found that fishing is fun any time of the day and whether I catch a lot of fish or not.  However,it is a rare day when I go fishing and not catch fish.  I can’t even remember the day that I went fishless.  I especially enjoy those days when I meet people leaving the lake when I’m just starting out at noon when they say,"They’re just not biting", and I  catch a bunch.  And if I don’t catch a bunch, I’m still happy that I was able to go out and just have fun trying.  So, if you’re a novice, don’t give up…just have fun trying.  And, if you try ice fishing, be very sure about the ice.
